Saturday, January 06, 2007 March of the Infantry Pride - 32 km.Commando Graduation Endurance March - 72km crazy. i spent the whole of yesterday to this morning carrying a load of about 15+ kg walking for 22 hours, covering a total distance of 72km. starting off from pasir ris, we walked through pasir ris camp, to changi beach, changi ferry terminal, changi coastal road (the 10km long walk next to changi airport runway), down to east coast park, all the way to Fort Rd, stretching a total distance of 36.5km.. den of course, making our way back.. the march was not easy. we took many precautions to prevent or at least minimise the damage. haha like wearing tights, applying vaseline, blister plasters etc.. for me, somehow, perhaps taking some effort to walk properly and not drag my feet so maybe the vaseline and tights worked very effectively.. but the walk was really long.. this time, east coast park was quite sad.. no eye candies for us.. so the supposedly best part.. was damn draggy and long.. anyway, the whole walk was damn drag-ass. very boring and torturous.. and it became harder when some of the guys were feeling unwell, so we just helped each other, hump their load and carried on.. but fortunately.. thanks to the great planning.. we catered for some good refreshments along the way, at some rest points.. the walk was tought and ardous.. but at the end, it felt really pretty good.. like a certain sense of achievement.. because 22 hours is really much harder than what most people would think.. usual planning norms is 4km/hr.. and by right 72km should take 18hrs only.. let's say we add another 2 hrs for lunch and dinner break only adds up to 20hrs.. but when you're walking it.. 22 hrs seems much shorter than you think. it's long.. but when you're dying and still pushing your bodies limits to reach the timing.. suddenly 22 hrs seems very short... i'm not exactly pissed, but i'm very puzzled.. why everytime we're on our route marches, on our trainings.. we'll get some people who will keep shouting "ORD LOH!" at us.. so what if you're out of the army, do you really feel that proud of yourself? what did you do in that two years? we're doing our part for the country, i'm not saying that i'm really that willing.. but since you have to do it, why not do it to the best of your ability? not like we're damn bothered by it, but all these people are actually making themselves look damn stupid and childish. in fact, i'm pretty proud to say that i'm a commando.. get to do airbone, heli-rappeling, fast roping etc.. certain kind of special ops that probably only a handful of people will get to experience.. anyway, my body is dying. and this entry is pretty crappy. but 72 is such a definite yet infinite number. haha. the march felt endless.. and boring and draggy just like this entry.
